Fortnight 49

Saturday

Mum and dad were watching TV tonight and I was really bored. I started to play "chase my tail" for a while, but I got so dizzy running around in circles, that I had to stagger off to regain my brain control and after that I lost the urge to play any more. I did have a quick go at it again later in the evening but I felt so confused I didn't try it for very long. Maybe I'm getting too old to play this game. However, dogs play this all through their life so maybe I'm just doing it wrong….

Sunday

I'm still jumping on top of doors whenever I get the chance. I still haven't got the landing sorted and I keep banging my nose on the floor. My reasoning is, the more I practise the better my landings will get in time… well, hopefully anyway! I jumped on top of mum as she was walking through the door before and she jumped. It was so funny, but she didn't seem to see the funny side of it…

Monday

Wow! I got a new fluffy spider today. The white fluffy spider that mum got me in October last year is dying, I have pulled off most of the legs, both it's eyes and most of the body. Cruel aren't I? Anyway, it got so bad that mum took it off me as I was just pulling off fur and she didn't want me to have more stomach surgery. It was this toy that they thought I had swallowed when I had the surgery so now I only play with it when supervised. But, today mum came in with a new one. I was a bit nervous of it at first, as it smells of the vets. I know that's where she got it from, but you can't blame a cat for being nervous when the vet reminds you of bad experiences! Once I realised that if I played with it, I wasn't going to go to the vets I was hooked!

Dad put it on top of the door to my bedroom and I jumped on top of the door to get it. Only he was really cruel and put it at the end, above the handle. Well, when you walk out that far on top of the door it swings open really fast and any kitty that happens to be balancing on the top ends up gripping (as well as you can do with no fingers) the door for dear life! They soon realised that I didn't stand a chance of getting it and moved it to the other end, but I'm not stupid. I gave it up as a bad job and waited for them to move it again.

They then put it on the door handle, a much easier place to reach and I played for over 2 hours with it. It's on stretchy red elastic and I kept biting the elastic and running across the room only for it to pull back to the door when I reach a certain point. That is, until just before bedtime when I got hold of the spider and ran REALLY fast across the room. The elastic snapped and it hit me on the back of my head, as I turned around to see what hit me I lost my balance and fell over. Mum and dad were crying with laughter at me.. but I didn't find it so funny. It was like being hit in-between the ears on the back of your head with a large elastic band. Yep, IT HURT! I tried eating the left over bit of elastic but spoilsport mum took it off me and cut if off…. Spoilsport. But at least I can't swallow it and get it tied around my stomach now.

Tuesday

You know that fluffy material that I mentioned in the last diary, well, I was right. It was for a cat bed, well 2 cat beds actually. Mum made them today, and of course I offered my help. It would be rude not to. She sewed the beds up, and was pinning the zips in place when the doorbell rang. I got to the door first, as usual, but I couldn't open the door so waited for mum to come. It was a woman doing a survey for the BBC. Whilst she was in our house asking questions I tried to show off. I got inside the bed that mum had made. At first I was lying down but I decided to go for a walk across the front room. The material is white with black splodges on, like a cow skin pattern. I was fully inside, facing away from the zip end and took it for a test drive across the lounge. Mum was trying to get me out, and the woman was laughing at me. I was bumping into loads of things, as I couldn't see where I was going.. as I headed towards the large vase of flowers mum picked me up and took me out and then put it out of my reach so I couldn't knock anything messy over. She finished both beds and hid them so I couldn't get on and make them smell of me, or the other cats would not want them.

Wednesday

Mum gave Henry his bed today and he got on it instantly. Another success story!

Saturday

Mum had guests today. Lisa came. I like Lisa, she comes around often and I try to play with her every time, but she doesn't realise. I get my squidgy ball and drop it at her feet, so she can play fetch, but she ignores it every time. I even jump up sometimes and put it in her lap, but she goes "ow, isn't he cute" and never throws the ball. Obviously not a cat person, but she should be honoured, as I don't play with everyone you know! Well, today Lisa bought someone with her and they smelled of cats, so I knew they were a kitty person. I took her my ball and she threw it for me - success! Wonderful! We played fetch for a while and they were all talking about me and saying how cute I was… well, I didn't need another hint. I went into show-off mode so they thought I was really clever. I got on top of the door to the porch and balanced there for ages, jumped off and crunched my nose on the carpet… hopefully they didn't see that and I still looked cute. Then I realised, in front of the new lady was the other cat bed wrapped in a big black bin bag, as it's too big for wrapping paper. Well, what a lure. My 2 favourite things. Plastic bags and cuddly cat beds. I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get inside the bags and at the bed inside. I tried getting in from the top, the bottom, underneath, from the side but with no luck. I did not manage to get through the bags before they left and she took it with her… drat! Monday

Some guests came to see mum and dad this evening and the lady was definitely a cat person. She played with me all the time that they were here and it was wonderful. We played with the squidgy ball, the cat charmer snake and the fluffy spider. I even got on the door to show her how cool I am. When they left I was over-excited and got dad to play with me for the rest of the night.

A new box appeared in the front room tonight. It's got plastic bags full of air inside and when I run on the carpet and then get into the box the bags stick to me. I ran full pace around the lounge but it was still stuck to me. I was shaking and weaving around but it was still attached to me. I didn't manage to get it off until I caught it on the sofa and it fell off.

My new box... can you see the airbags keeping me upright?

Tuesday

Another box came today. Mum was opening it, she had slit the top and part of the side and I got my head and one of my front paws inside. I couldn't get in any further as the box was full of whatever was being delivered. Every time mum tried to open a bit more of the box with the scissors I had a sniff and she stopped so she didn't cut my whiskers. Eventually I let her open in and then I managed to get in the box. It had a big pan in it, and the box made an excellent place for an afternoon nap.

Mum and dad were watching the "Deep Sea" episode of "The Blue Planet" again tonight and I was playing in one of my boxes. When the "rattail" fish came on the screen, it caught my eye and I ran to the TV. You see, this fish had on it's side in writing that only cats can see "Jacks dinner" . When it swam off the screen I ran around to the side of the TV waiting for it to come out, but it didn't. I spent the rest of the show in front of the TV waiting for any more juicy dinner morsels to be shown, but there wasn't any…..

Thursday

Spent most of the day asleep in the pan box. I took some toys in with me to make it my own and then fell asleep! Dad stuck some paper on the box and took some pictures, but it didn't wake me too much.

Don't hassle me....

Friday

Ooooooooh, I'm all excited. Mum was on the computer this morning and I jumped on the desk to see what she was doing. I saw my squidgy balls on the screen, along with other cat toys. I stuck my nose on the pictures of the ones that looked interesting and then the screen changed. It was a payment screen… new toys are coming for me to play with….. I hope that they come quickly as I murdered my last squidgy ball today and now I have nothing to play with……

Since I was a kitten mum has had a close relationship with the washing machine in the kitchen. She fills it up a number of times a week and each time I watch with interest. When I was younger, I tried to catch the washing as it passed the window but never managed to catch it. This week I had a brain wave, if I can't catch it from the outside, maybe I can catch it from the inside…. I waited until she had pulled most of the wet clothes from the inside and then I got inside for a look. As I got my last paw in there the drum started to move and I fell over as I was unexpectedly turned on my side. Mum managed to photograph me as I was getting out, I staggered across the kitchen to the front of the boiler where I promptly threw up… getting inside the washing machine is not something I will try again in a hurry!

oooooooh, I don't feel so well.. is this what humans call a white knuckle ride
