Monday
We have loads of wildlife in our garden. Since last year
we have had a regular visitor of a 3-legged squirrel that
mum and dad have named "Cyril the squirrel" - oh
they are so imaginative! Well, today when mum was
cleaning all the litter that I had carefully kicked all
over the floor a little squirrel went past the window.
It wasn't Cyril, as it had all of its legs. At this point
mum, quite rudely I thought, picked me up and put me in
the other room whilst she grabbed the camera. Whilst I
was scratching at the door from the other room she was
sat in the French doors, in MY room, watching
the new guest and feeding him with loads of nuts, whilst
taking loads of pictures. She was sat there for about
an hour and I was feeling very pushed out. They have named
this squirrel "Dali", for some strange reason.
It was playing in our garden and playing "chase" across
the lawn, around the clothesline and up the fence. When
he got to the fence, he would turn around and do it all
over again. After about 30 minutes he got used to mum
watching him and started to come to the doorway to eat
the nuts that she had spread out for him…
Every
time she goes into my room now she is looking in the garden
and next doors fences for the squirrel. Do I not exist
anymore?
Finally
managed to pull mum away from the window and got her to
play fetch with me for a few hours. So we were all happy
by bedtime.

Wednesday
Another squirrel was in the garden today. I was sat on
the window ledge in the back bedroom and was watching
this squirrel on the fence. It was a different squirrel
as this one had white ears, which helped me to see it.
I was whacking my tail on the window ledge (something
I do when watching birds etc. in the garden and I get
excited) so she knew that there was something out there.
She went down to get some pictures but it jumped into
the neighbours garden and started digging in their rockery,
I bet they will be happy. It did take a few nuts from
our garden but I was at the downstairs window by then
and I scared it off. She's named this one "Sydney"
- where does she get these names from?
Thursday
Over the last few weeks I have learnt something. In an
evening (sometimes during the day, but mainly in an evening)
mum uses the stair lift to get upstairs. I am used to
this noisy thing now and I often play around the base
of it. I hide my ball in the motor and try to bat it out.
I realised that if I jump on the seat when mum wants to
use it, I can get an energy free ride upstairs/ or obviously
downstairs.
Normally dad comes home from work and goes on the PC for
a while, and mum joins him. Now, I am a gooseberry and
I hate being in a room on my own. So I always follow them
upstairs to the computer. There isn't room in the office
for all 3 of us, so I wait on the stair lift seat for
mum to come and use it. She picks me up so she can sit
down and then puts me on her knee. When the lift is going
down the stairs I get the opportunity to rub my scent
glands around my ears on the banister and nule post (posts
at the top and bottom of stairs). So I also get to scent
areas that I can't normally reach, oh yes, and I get cuddles
as well which definitely makes it worth the effort! Also
if she forgets to put the lift seat up when she gets off
I sleep on it as it quite comfy and warm. I normally wake
up when some joker (mum or dad) sends me up the stairs
on my own though. I will always sit on until it reaches
the top then I run down and get back on.. How mad am I?
It makes them laugh though and that's good.

Friday
I gave mum a shock today. She was in the bedroom on the
phone and she thought I was downstairs, but I wasn't.
I had pushed up the top of the duvet (quilt over the bed)
and crawled down to about half way down the bed, where
I found a comfy position, curled up and went to sleep.
When I heard mum talking I decided to come out for a cuddle,
however, being asleep had disorientated me and I had lost
the direction to get out, so I was walking around under
the covers scratching for the side where I could jump
out. She was still on the phone so this movement of the
bed covers took her by surprise. At least she let me out
before I was there all night. Next time I will make sure
that I leave a small gap so I can always find my way out
when I wake up!
Saturday
Mum bought me some new mice from the supermarket today
and we spent all night playing fetch with the mice and
the ball. After all the squirrel attention, it was nice
to get their undivided attention all night.
Monday
Managed to escape for a while today. I played with Henry
until he started hissing at me. Mum heard us hissing at
each other and quickly came out to pick me up so we didn't
fight. What a spoilsport she is!
Spent the evening asleep on the sofa by dads side, nice
and warm and I get the odd cuddle, which is excellent.
Tuesday
Got
another variant of the stair lift ride game. As mum walked
across the room towards the lift, I anticipated correctly
that she was going to use it. As she turned around to
put the seat down I jumped straight up, the only thing
was, was that she didn't expect me to be there and sat
on me! Woops! After realising her mistake
she picked me up and put me on her knee so I could get
a ride upstairs. I was waiting on the seat for the return
journey, which seemed to bemuse her.
It's
really windy and rainy here and I have been watching empty
bins blowing up the street as they are emptied today.
It was funny watching these big black things on wheels
being blown up the road into the path of oncoming cars.
I wonder if the bins experience the same panic as a cat
does, when they are going up the street and see a car
coming straight towards them? I guess not, but it's still
something to wonder about.
Wednesday
I left mum a present today and I don't think she was too
happy with me. I often sit on the windowsill in their
bedroom watching life go by in the street. I had escaped
this morning and had mud in my fur so I went in their
room for a nosey, and a clean. I use the radiator top
as a jumping point to get to the windowsill height. I
left something on the top of her towel, it was about an
inch long and it was brown with cat fluff around the edges.
She thought it was either poo or a squashed slug. I know
what it was, but I'm not telling. She had to wash her
towel twice to get the stains out and she was not happy
with me. The door seems to be shut now so I can't get
in there again, I wonder if this is going to be a permanent
thing?
Thursday
Spent
a while sleeping in the little cardboard box in my room
over the past few days. It's the last place that they
look for me, so I get extra peace and quiet here. Means
I can also watch for Sydney, Dali or Cyril
and maybe rid our garden of these nut thieves. Not managed
yet though, as I haven't managed to unlock the French
doors! As long as they don't come in and eat my food I'm
not all that bothered. Just have to make sure that mum
makes time for me and them.
Friday
Argh! What's
happening to me?
I
don't feel too well. The earth is coming out of my bottom
and it's not nice. Mum forced a little white tablet down
my throat this morning and then made sure that the litter
tray was clean and full of litter. I should have realised
that something bad was going to happen. I think she gave
me a worming tablet. For those of you that have had no
experience with these tiny tablets, they purge your system
and make you poo lots. That's not nice when you can't
go outside. At least they are cleaning the tray regularly,
but it's not the same as a private patch of garden when
you can't be watched and then inspected for worms. How
bad is that for your dignity? Maybe I will leave her another
present as a revenge tactic? However, I do like living
here and wouldn't want to upset them too much... will
have to take time to mull this revenge plot over to make
sure it's the best plan for ME.
