Fortnight 197
Saturday
Ozzy brought mum a present today. We were all sat in the lounge watching TV when Ozzy appeared at the French windows with something in his mouth. Mum let him inside, and he ran into the lounge and opened his mouth. A live sparrow flew from the released grasp and flew straight into the lounge window. We both ran to catch it, and so did mum. We were quicker than her, and Ozzy got hold of it again. Once again mum got him to open his mouth and the sparrow flew into the window again. Mum got hold of it at the same time that Ozzy got hold of it. She managed to prise his jaw open and caught the bird as it flew out. She took it outside and let it go over the back wall. That was the excitement for today!
Monday
Dad went back into hospital again this morning, so it is just the 3 of us in the house again this week. Mum did the cleaning and I spent the cold day asleep on the bed, when I got bored of the bed, I moved to my usual position on top of the sofa.
Tuesday
There were loads of those firework bangs outside tonight. Mum kept Ozzy inside again tonight and he wasn’t very happy about it. He was howling to go out, but mum got him playing with the catnip mouse and he soon forgot all about going outside.
Wednesday
Bonfire Night
Well, it’s been nearly a week since I last went outside. Every time mum opens the door to let Ozzy out, I go for a sniff of the outside, but I don’t go outside. It’s far too cold for me, I prefer the warmth and safety of the house.
Mum called Ozzy inside about 4pm today and would not let him out again. She spent a while moving the bed in the spare room and made herself a space to sit on it. She sat there in the dark with the camera and a drink. We wondered what was going on. I was especially curious as this is all new for me, as I haven't been here at this time of year before as I am only a baby. Soon after she sat down there was a lot of people on the cricket pitch behind the house and they lit this massive fire, I loved sitting there watching the lights move in the fire. I was captivated by it. I sat on the windowsill with mum and Ozzy sat on the floor, under the clothes airer. He wasn’t too happy with the night as there were loads of bangs from around the street. Shortly after they lit the fire, there were loads of lights in the air with bangs. I guess these must be fireworks, I have never seen them before. I was really captivated and sat on the windowsill with mum and watched the whole display. It was excellent.

When the fireworks were over we all came downstairs and Ozzy sat on the leather chair and went to sleep and I spent the rest of the night alternating between sleeping in my bunny bed and playing with my rattling ball.
Thursday
This morning I was trying really hard to get something from under the cooker in the kitchen. Mum had a look and went and got some long tool and managed to get 4 mini-mice from under the cooker. I spent the whole day playing with them. I am practising for when I get older. The effects of the anti-biotics I was on the other week have run out and I am walking around with a trail of snot hanging from my nose and sneezing everywhere again. I am not wheezing, but I do feel a bit snotty!
Friday
Mum went out this afternoon for a few hours, she came home for a bit and then went out again. She brought a large box home and started to build whatever it was that was in the box. We soon realised as it took shape (yes, we were both watching with interest) that it was a new hoover. As she went to turn it on to try it, both Ozzy and I ran upstairs as fast as our paws would carry us. It’s different to the old one though, it’s much smaller and not nearly as noisy. It still frightens us, but not as much as the old one. We don’t run so far when it is turned on now! Mum tried it out and hovered all around the house as we ran from room to room to get out of its way!
Dad didn't come home tonight, it was really odd, a Friday night with just mum, Ozzy and I. She watched the boxing on TV and we both slept in the lounge. I still haven't worked out how to get through both the curtain and the lining, so I slept inside the lining, where it is lovely and warm.
Saturday
Mum went out this morning with one of the neighbours. They came to look at us through the window, I felt like a freak show. I was in my usual place on the top of the sofa and this lady was trying to cuddle me through the window. Even I know you can't do that!!! Anyway, they were both watching us and cooing at us.. I was not impressed and moved upstairs to the bed, where they could not see me. Mum was gone for a while and came back later with dad. We haven't seen dad all week and completely ignored him all day.
There were quite a few more fireworks tonight and we both stayed in in the safety and warmth of the house. Well, of course I stayed in, I haven't been outside in ages!
Monday
Dad went off again this morning and mum did the usual Monday stuff like cleaning and washing. All the sheets were off the bed, and I walked over onto the mattress and did a massive sneeze, dripping dark green snot all over it. I don’t think she was too pleased with me!
This afternoon I spent curled up asleep on the bed in the warmth. I was happily snoozing away when I was picked up by mum and took downstairs and put in the cat carrier. I guess I am off to the vets. They gave me some more anti-biotics for my snotty nose. I love going to the vets as I get loads of cuddles from all the vets and nurses as I lived there for so long when I was a baby as I wasn’t well. Today was no exception and I got loads of cuddles from them all. I lay there in the carrier with my paws through the door looking nice and relaxed, I'm a happy cat!
Tonight mum had the French doors open to call Ozzy who was on the wall at the back of the garden. I decided to go outside for a minute or two. It’s the first time I have been outside in the dark and it scared me rigid. Within seconds of being outside, the wind in the trees scared me and I puffed out my tail to look big and frightening. However, being the baby coward that I am, I ran inside to mums legs where I knew I would be safe. I don’t think I will be going outside in the dark again for a while.
Tuesday
It’s so windy today. All the windows in the house are closed, but the wind is howling around the house and spooking me. I have stayed close to mum all day as I am not happy with the wind. This afternoon mum went to bed, and Ozzy and I joined her, safe from the wind and warm in the nice duvet! We are really quite soft you know!
Wednesday
We had visitors today. The lady that Jack called the Dog Lady came and two other people came as well. Mum went out with them and left Ozzy and I in the house to have a snooze in the warmth. We couldn’t argue with that plan, so we obliged and curled up together on the bed.
I have been practising my feline origami every day and I am getting quite good at making holes and shapes in toilet roll. It’s excellent finding something that you are good at! After reading through some of the early diaries I have found something that both Jack and I have in common.. we both like shredding toilet paper… when he was a kitten he was as fixated on it as I am. Glad to know I am not too weird in my habits!!!!

Thursday
It has been raining all day and not even Ozzy wanted to go outside today. Ozzy spent the day asleep on the big cushion in our room, and I spent it following mum around the house.
Tonight, I wanted to be nice and warm so I spent the evening in the curtains. I still haven't worked out how to get through both layers, so I lie between the curtain and the lining in a little shroud, where it’s lovely and warm.
