I went to the shops today to see how much it would cost to buy an upgrade from Home Premium to Vista Business.... Its R2500-00... Micorsoft seriously need to rethink their software policies or I'm going to switch to LINUX... Office 2007 is nearly R5000-00

That is so true Billie, we have friends who have been sold new systems with the latest operating system and they are constantly on the phone.. how do I questions!
There are benefits to moving on with technology though, easier to find spares and it's not so hard to remember how to do something on the OS you know, rather than remembering something you may not have used for a few years! It's good to find other female techies that know their stuff and run rings around the blokes MadCat

Well, working in IT has it's advantages... I have a fully licensed version of Office 2007 at home now and it didn't cost me a cent...(not that I would pay R5000-00 for it)... It's quite a learing curve going from Office 2000 to 2007 tho

It runs really quick on older hardware when compared to Windows. Its easy to install and you can dual boot if you like (run windows or Ubuntu) Tell you other half I agree its brilliant, but, its not for everyone. Some people just cant re learn a new OS and where everything is.

Yes they are in Gauteng Nutty. Their website is http://www.matrixwarehouse.co.za
Not the nicest website, just their brochure and branches etc but they are really reasonable. I see their Vista Ultimate 32bit is now R1759. Maybe it's time to upgrade. I tend to stick to a stable OS for my personal use. I stuck with windows Me for years much to my husbands disgust because it suited me. Don't know why as it was one of the worst OS's ever. I think I reformatted my hard drive at least once a week. XP seems fairly stable now that they've gotten alot of the kinks out of it. I used Office 2007 beta version for about 5 mins and hated it. Maybe I should give it a bit longer and it's probably better than the beta anyway. I am just not prepared to spend R5000 on software that will sit in the cupboard. |

I agree with you madcat. There are so few woman in the field. Are they just not interested or is it too difficult for them to get into a male dominated world. Anyway, it's fun to watch these young guys mouths fall open when I start chatting about pc's and the latest technology. The techs at the computer shops know me so well and they purposely start talking technical stuff when these varsity kids walk in. Then we all have a good laugh when they leave.
Hope you are still feeling on top of the world after your floatation therapy. |
