Hello,
I couldnt sleep the other night and for some reason I started thinking about Albino's. You know people and animals that have no colour pigments, like the mouse below Is there such a thing as Albino black people? If there is I wondered if life was really tough for them before the condition was understood. Would they, or even are they, treated as social outcasts? Gurkin |

In some parts of rural Africa an albino black person is ostrasized. They are considered to be cursed and looked upon with fear. They think the ancestors have punished them for some transgression and often the whole family is treated as outcasts. Due to the health problems associated with this condition they generally do not live long lives as they are hidden away from the rest of the community and not treated.
In urban areas these fears are becoming less as the black people are becoming more westernized. It will take a long time for for these fears to be washed away. It is difficult to get away from preconditioned ideas. I hope this answers your question Gurkin.

You would be suprised how superstitious they really are. They believe in curses and spend a good deal of their money having curses removed by charlatan witchdoctors. For example if they find a brown snake in their home an evil curse has been placed on them but a green snake means they have been blessed with luck. They will spend their whole life savings having the evil curse removed.
They have very intersting customs and beliefs.

We're getting there...it might take a few generations though.
There are a lot of snake lovers here especially in my area but not in the black community but times change. 20 years ago they were afraid of electricity, now they are electricians. So we just have to give them time to adapt.
