Default Favourite book / author / genre

My reading tastes are fairly varied, ranging from biography to sci-fi/fantasy, with everything in between! Just wondered what everyone else is reading.

My actual favourite book is probably The Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine - read in one sitting quite some years ago now (and it's a BIG) book because I couldn't bear to put it down.

At the moment I'm reading James Patterson, The 5th Horseman - so far so good.

What's everyone elses favourite?

5th Horseman....not read that one yet. I've read all his other ones to date, although he seems to be writing more and more each year!! Need to get a bigger bookcase just for all his titles. He's one of my favourite authors as they are very readable books.

Easily my favourite book would have to be The Lord of the Rings. I never get tired of reading it. Closely followed by the Red Dwarf series.

My favourite genre is definately horror and my favourite author is Shaun Hutson. I buy all his books on pre-order from amazon.

I think though on a different genre altogether my favourite book of all time is 1984 by George Orwell. I couldn't put it down when I read it, I have read it and re-read it numerous times and I think it is just as relevant today as when it was written in the 1930's.

I am currently reading an introduction to NLP, which is totally fascinating. A real mind opener and a work out for the brain at the same time! I like meditation books and books of that nature as well... a bit of everything I guess!

I quite like philosophy texts myself, but don't rank them as in my favourites as such. I also quite like Michael Moore's books, but he can get a bit "preachy".

Michael Moore?? That name sounds familiar.. Oh yes, just looked it up on amazon. I haven't read his books but I have watched his films.

I think though my fav author is Shaun Hutson.. even though there are loads of other fine ones out there.. I'm a big horror fan and his books are really really good.

I'm only reading NLP and other stuff to keep my mind active and also, there are no new Hutson books I haven't already got!!

I would have to say my favourite Genre was Horror as well...
Stephen King would have to be my favourite author, whether he wrote horror or not... he just has the unique ability to get into the characters mind and explore the human psyche...
I used to read a lot of Dean Koontz as well when I was in my late teens, early 20's(atho must say he is not a very good writer) and used to like James Herbet altho tried to read one of his books again recently and found it very dated...
Currently reading The Twelfth Card by Jeffery Deaver, who I quite enjoy as well...

Favourite Book of all time would probably be The Stand by Stephen King

To err is human. To ARRR is pirate.

I found after a while all the Stephen King books are on the same plot, set in Portland Maine!!! I did like deliverance though!

I have read 1 Dean R Koonz book and thought it was really verbose and very predicatable.

James Herbert used to be my fav author before I found Shaun Hutson. I also think some of Herberts books are quite dated, but Portent is a good book

Anyone read any Stephen Donaldson? He's written sci-fi and fantasy, and he is absolutely amazing! For the horror stuff I do like Shaun Hutson, but think that I marginally prefer Graham Masterton. I've got a few Stephen Kings and a few Dean Koontz too - it really is a case of too many authors, too little time!!

I love books especially sc-fi/fantasy and horror. My best friend has over 12000 books so I always have a good and diverse supply of books to read. I like Stephen King and Dean Koontz, although I have found that their later books have no real substance. Graham Masterston, Terry Pratchett and on the lighter side Minette Walters. I don't really have a favourite as all books have some value even if they are not that well written. If I had to choose at this point in time it would have to be the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King (very thought provoking) and of course Lord of the Rings.

Oh and I love big thick books. There is nothing worse than reading a good book and suddenly it is finished. All the books in my book case are 400 pages or more.

Innovate, don't imitate...
