Why do some clouds appear to be flat at the bottom? I noticed this whilst daydreaming out of the window

Mike...

Because a cloud forms at the dew point in the atmousphere which is the exact point the air is cold enough for the evaporation to condense into a cloud. Its puffy above that point because of rising pressure that sucks up the condensed air which makes it look fluffy! (or something like that!)

Learn something new every day lol! Thats why we only get fog in cold temperatures, because the dew point is closer to the ground-a cloud is basically fog that cant form lower because the air is too warm!

I'm full of useless info me!

I have a few.....

Q1) Why does the last bit of ice always stick to the bottom of the glass?
Q2) Why do babies clothes have pockets on them?
Q3) Do stairs go up or down?

I can answer question 3- stairs go up, because they have to have a ground floor (or base) to start from!

as for the other 2,no idea lol!

Me being a cynic I'd say for fashion and so that they can charge more.

The last piece sticks because it normally has some time to melt. The thing that you need to understand is that a water molecule is unequally electronegative. The hydrogen end of a water molecule is slightly positive, and the oxygen end is slightly negative. Therefore, the hydrogen side of one molecule tends to form a weak bond with the oxygen side of another molecule. These bonds (called hydrogen bonds) tend to hold water molecules together. Another affect of the unequal charges, is that the water tends to stick to other things with any kind of unequal charge. In short, the last piece of ice sticks to the bottom of the glass because of the cohesive and adhesive properties of water
