Anyone of a medical persuasion feel free to correct me!

For an embryo to develop correctly and to make it to the outside world, it relies on the genetic information in it's parents DNA. Therefore, for it to develop an umbilical cord, Adam and/or Eve must have carried this genetic detailing. As far as I am aware, a persons genes contain all the information about how they look (which is why most people have a vague resemblance to parents/siblings) so if they had no naval, then there would be no instructions in their DNA for the embryos to grow one, and they would not have survived in the womb.

That's what I think anyway!

I can answer that. God created human beings but created Adam in his image. Adam was the first God-like human being, i.e. "man".

Cain and Abel married from the "breeding stock".

Well, I don't think you can go by that... Adam and Eve never actually posed for those pictures....
I would imagine the artists never even considered the fact that they may not have belly buttons, besides, the paintings would look strange if they hadn't painted them...

Anyway, I think the question is moot... since I really don't think there were actually two people created by a god and that every human being on earth is descended from them... i'm an evolusionist...
