Being burned alive or tortured. Basically anything that involves pain.

I've found that I've developed a fear of flying over the past couple of years...
Actually, not so much flying(that bit's fine) it's more a fear of falling out of the sky and crashing... I think I've watched too many episodes of "Air Crash Investigation" on National Geographic... (plus I knew someone that died in a Light Aircraft accident)

To err is human. To ARRR is pirate.

Many say that flying is safer than travelling on the road. Its a daft thing to say as you have to use the road to get to the airport

Statistically I guess it is safer... although stataticians make figures work for themselves... anyway, the difference is, if your car breaksdown all you have to do is pull over to the side of the road... if a planes engine breaksdown, you're kind of stuffed (probably not on a large jet if only one engine goes, but if your in a single prop aircraft?????)
Also, if you are in a car crash, it is relatively quick, and contrary to hollywood movies, the car isn't likely to burst into flames...
In a plane crash, you could be falling out of the skies for 5 minutes, and then on impact the plane IS likely to catch fire...
I'm afraid, if air travel is avoidable(obviously sometimes it isn't) I will avoid it....

To err is human. To ARRR is pirate.

My other half is a very nervous flyer and it takes a couple of strong bloody marys for him to get on the plane. My mother on the other hand would rather fly then go by boat because, she says, she can't swim far! Can't say I've noticed her flying far either, but maybe I just haven't been looking Me, I'm not scared of very much, except dying in terrible pain, and little creepy crawly things, and heights aren't my favourite thing, oh, and rollercoasters, and icy pavements, and dentists, and ............................

I love flying, but do not understand parachuting.

After watching "A Perfect Storm" for ages I was afraid of deep sea boating.

Remember - If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.
