The turtle theory was something I heard on TV a few years ago.
Some people believe that the universe is not suspended in space but placed on the top of a turtle. When a lady was asked what the turtle was stood on, she replied rather haughtily "Another turtle! "... she assumed that there was an infinite number of turtles in a column holdig up the universe. A bit like the people that believe that the universe is placed upon the shoulders of Atlas. MadCat
