What about the one your parents used to tell you about a swan's wing being able to break your arm?

Somehow I don't think that one's true.

My dad's favourite saying when I was little was 'If you don't stop crying I'll give you something to cry for!'.

Stopped my bawling very quickly.

On Swallowing the pips of an apple you were warned that a tree would start to grow in your belly!! There was also a similar warning in swallowing chewing gum - can't remember what that was though. Too many of those sayings to remember - but before the days when it was deemed that children should not be smacked - were you ever belted by the syllable - hence - 'don't you ever do that again' = 8 smacks!!
