Wednesday, September 24:
Ever fancied a day off in the middle of the week so you can relax in the garden, maybe invite some mates around and cook up a barbeque? Haven't we all, but it's pretty hard to justify a day's annual leave for a BBQ, right? And even harder to convince friends and family to do the same. Well, in South Africa they have the answer because today, believe it or not, is National BBQ Day down on Africa's southern tip – or National Braai Day as the locals call it – where everyone has the day off work to practice their outdoor culinary skills. What!? And the UK can't even get a day off for our own Queen's birthday (although other Commonwealth countries seem to be able to). No such problems in South Africa, however, where the day is even backed by the revered Archbishop Desmond Tutu. And it's not even summer. Well, to all you South Africans out there - Happy Braai Day!

LOL... actually officially, today is "National Heritage Day"... some bright spark (I actualy think it was Bishop Tutu) came up with the idea last year of making today "National Braai(which is Afrikaans for Grill) day"... as they seeing having a "Braai" as being part of South African Heirtage whether you are Black, white, Indian, Pink or blue...
But Yes, I've enjoyed my public holiday off, even tho I didn't have a Braai P.S. it may not be summer, but it is Spring and the temperature in Jo'burg today was 28c... and not a cloud in the sky

Yes. last time I was in London, I met a couple of Dutch girls in a pub who were in England learning to speak English so that they could teach it in Holland... I spoke to them in my broken Afrikaans and they said the same thing... it's like Dutch that Kids would speak...
Afrikaans is derived from Dutch and French...
