Do You Smoke?

I've just read a report by the WHO(No, NOT Pete Townsend and co) claiming that 100 Million People Died last Century due to tobacco related illnessess ...

I was wondering how many users in here smoke, how much they smoke, how many are ex smokers and how many have never smoked???

I used to smoke , nearly 40/day for +-19 years... (I started when I was 13 and quit when I was 32....just a little over 6 Years ago...)

I used to smoke in high school but it was only because all my friends did. I hated it and would only smoke maybe 2 a day to keep up apparences. This was for less than a year when I finally decided that my health wasn't worth it. I was still hanging around with the chain smokers though so I probably suffered from passive smoking.

Yes, I smoke about 6 a day. I wish I had never started

If tobacco was invented today it would not be licenced for public use. It gets people addicted and then slowly kills them, there are no ifs or buts, thats what it does!

Its too late to ban it as the manufacture of it is a big big industry, and it generates billions and billions of dollars of revenue.

First, let me just say I find it strange that you consider the Who "Pete Townsend & co". I'd always say "Roger Daltry & Co".

But apart from that I did smoke about 2 a week when I was a teenager, just for a few months, but don't think that makes me an "ex-smoker", so have put down non-smoker.

My mother is dying of emphysema because of her smoking - and still won't stop - having said that she has smoked since the age of 12 and is now 85, so not a bad innings so far, and she ain't done yet!

My Godmother used to smoke loads. I don't know exactly how many maybe 30 a day?? She had a heart attack last year and when she came out of the hospital she never smoked again.

Although it probably wasn't just the smoking that caused the heart attack. She's been running herself ragged for years! Always staying late and work and being the only one in the family who visits her elderly mother. She works too hard. The heart attack was her body's way of telling her to slow down.

I smoke quite a lot, I dont really drink and we dont go out much.. Im allowed one vice. I care about the health side of things, but not enough to stop!

Pete Townsend really was the brain behind the band... wrote the music etc... so really was his band with Roger Daltry as the singer....(sorry, I'm probably biased as I used to play guitar in a band and I considered it my band, not the singers )

I drink too... Beer, as far as I'm concerned, is one of the great pleasures in life...

I don't judge people for smoking as I did it for years myself and know how addictive it is... AND I used to enjoy it... I just got to a stage where I couldn't breath all that well and thought, this really isn't worth it...

i drink, but i dont smoke and never have done. I grew up with my mum and dad both smoking and me and my brother hated it! We used to record all the 'stop smoking or this is what you'll look like' ads from the tv and make them watch but it never made any difference! I dont like it, but i dont particularly mind other people doing it now tho. I'd prefer it if will would stop though, his wheezing does my head in! lol!
