Why are so many people hostile towards caravans on the road.
I tow to the legal limit and on single lane roads pull in where possible to allow other traffic to pass, what's the problem? Oh, could it be the impatient and arrogant 'I own the road ' attitude that seems to prevail nowadays. |

Hmmm... I have nothing against caravans, except when they have an over-causious person in the driving seat who doesnt show any consideration for the people who have places to be! If they are travelling the speed limit, then thats fine-but lets be honest, most people who tow a caravan dont, and unlike you, dont allow people to pass. it is irritating when your stuck behind a caravan on a narrow road when you have no chance of overtaking because you cant see round it. same goes for lorries or tractors tho-not just caravans, big things that go slow and you cant get passed! lol!

Trouble is if you obtained your license before 1997, you don't have to undergo any formal training in how to tow. Anyone can hitch up a van or trailer and off they go. I believe the restrictions are tighter now, but still think you shouldn't be allowed to tow anything without doing further tests. I can legally drive a vehicle/trailer combination of up to 8250KG without having had any proper training!
IMHO that's why a lot of people out there annoy other road users by their bad towing practice. BTW I nearly bought a caravan but opted for a trailer tent instead cos it doesn't block the light out my front window when it's on the drive!! |

we used to have a trailor tent. I get quite claustrophobic in a caravan cos its so closed in. not so bad when the majority of the walls are canvas instead lol!

I ahve absolutely no problem as long as they have the courteousy to not be on the road during the peak times. That, IMHO is just rude.

Don't forget when I say travel at the legal limit that for towing vehicles it is 10mph less than for cars on motorways, dual carraigeways and major roads.
Perhaps that's part of the problem. People get frustrated if stuck behind a caravan but legally we can't go faster to accomodate the wishes of others. |
