Chocolate is more likely to lower blood pressure than tea, say researchers. The reduction among people who ate cocoa-rich products for at least two weeks was about the same as that achieved by prescribed drugs. And the risk of strokes and heart attacks was cut by up to 20 per cent, according to a German report. Cocoa and tea contain polyphenols, chemicals that help prevent heart disease. But cocoa has a different type – procyanids – that appear more active. However, experts warned against gobbling up chocolate bars because of their high sugar, fat and calorie count. ' Rationally applied, cocoa products might be considered part of dietary approaches to lower hypertension risk,' said the study. Currently, patients with high blood pressure are urged to eat more fruit and vegetables, most of which contain polyphenols.

![]() Cadbury charged on salmonella scareCadbury will be prosecuted over a salmonella scare in which a million chocolate bars were recalled, it has been announced. The confectionery giant is accused of placing "unsafe" chocolate products on the market, Birmingham City Council said. The company will also be prosecuted over an alleged failure to "immediately inform" the authorities about the contamination. Cadbury Limited will also be prosecuted under a third charge of failing to "identify hazards" from chocolate bars contaminated with salmonella and of failing to identify "corrective actions". Each of the three offences carries a maximum penalty of unlimited fines and/or two years in prison, Birmingham City Council said. Cadbury has been summonsed to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on June 15. The prosecution follows an extensive investigation by the council's public health officers in the wake of the salmonella outbreak. The first two alleged offences involve breaches of General Food Regulations 2004. The third offence is an alleged breach of Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006. The firm pulled more than a million bars from stores on June 23 last year due to the salmonella scare. It blamed the contamination on a leaking pipe at one of its main factories in Marlbrook, Herefordshire. One month after the recall, the Health Protection Agency branded Cadbury's chocolate the most likely cause of a salmonella outbreak in more than 30 people. Birmingham City Council's investigation focused on activity at Cadbury's headquarters, which is in the local authority's patch. A second investigation by Herefordshire Council into possible environmental health breaches at the Marlbrook site is still ongoing. Cadbury said in a statement: "We have fully co-operated with the authorities throughout their inquiries and we will examine the charges that have been brought. As there is now legal action pending, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further." So chocalate isnt always good for you
