..... between a 'normal' post and a 'sticky'?? I'm probably being a bit dense, but I can't tell if there's supposed to be a difference or not, and when I tried to click on the 'sticky' nothing happened.

A sticky post will stay at the top of the topic list, whereas a normal post will be moved down the list as more topics are added.
