Well it is the festive season and I have started to think about my Christmas dinner.
It made me think "I wonder what other people have for their Christmas dinner". As a kid we used to have the following: (Which I loved apart from the sprouts) Starter: prawn cocktail or melon Main course: roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, sausages wrapped in bacon, roast beef, turkey, sprouts, cabbage, carrots, gravy, Yorkshire pudding. Dessert: trifle or cheesecake or Christmas pudding To finish off cheese and biscuits, followed by a snooze in front of the television. As an adult we have: (I really like this Starter: pâté on toast Main course: ribeye steak, onion rings, gravy, chips - served with a glass of red wine Dessert: Lemon meringue (Made by MadCat), but something sweet like chocolate fudge cake is fine To finish off cheese and biscuits (preferably a garlicky soft cheese like a roulade). Followed by a snooze in front of the television So what I'm asking you is: As a kid what was your family traditional Christmas meal? What is your ideal Christmas meal? If you don't celebrate Christmas then tell us what you have for one of your religious festivals or even for your Birthday ;-) Mike PS Thank you to those who do all the cooking and washing up, we do appreciate all you do :!: |

As a kid my mum used to make the traditional turkey with stuffing, sprouts (urgh!!) and roasties. No desert.
We have been to the indian restaurant on Xmas day. There is nothing like a good curry to make a day! We usuall have a nice piece of Ribeye steak, chips or roasties, veg. A nice desert of chocolate gateau, or similar. Not christmas cake, as I can't stand it!! I am also Jewish so I like to have potato latkes at Chanucah, but don't always manage to get it done! MadCat

A curry sounds brill !
The best Xmas dinner I had was a BBQ in the Falklands.... We got wasted and then had a beach party..... It was also fun watching the penguins come up on the beach and get blown up by land mines !! ( and I love penguins !) .... reminds me of Yeti Sports ! Apart from that, we don't do the traditional dinner. I normally do a chicken and sage roll on a bed of buttered spinach covered with a white wine, mushroom and shallot sauce. Dessert..... 4 hours kip ! Daz

I do all the roasts and Currys in my house... Leave the boring cooking to the wife...
As a kid, we always had the traditional Turkey, with Carrots, Sprouts and I think, cauliflower, roast spuds... followed by christmas pudding... no starter that I can recall... This year, I'm doing a Turkey, wrapped in bacon, stuffed with bangers one end and sage and onion the other... Roast potatos and will probably do carrots, cauliflower and sprouts (although My wife and I both hate sprouts we have guests who don't) Also doing a glazed gammon... will get a friend of mine to do his Ham and corn bake (a bit like a quiche but with loads of ham, corn and cheese) ... desert will be the traditional christmas pudding, plus doing fresh berries in wafer baskets served with vanilla ice cream... Haven't thought about starters but either smoked salmon or shrimp cocktail sounds good...
