I always go to stay with my parents in the North of Scotland, and look forward to some fabulous home cooked fare.
Its always got to be roast turkey for me, with all the trimmings. This year we are having a ham as well. We always start with prawn cocktail (so 80's!), and finish with a selection of puds, including Christmas pudding and cream. Cant wait.... yum |

As I am a planner for my department (I didn't get the shift job  ) I get CONTRABAND!!! \ From one supplier I got a 4kg Turkey breast, from another a bottle of 12 y/o scotch, from another a bottle of Penfolds bin128 red wine - yummy. So, Christmas dinner is at our house and we will be having: Various nibbles, chips & dips and several lagers or strawberry champagne. King Prawns (cold) on a tray covered with rock salt. Accompanied by Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay or a nice Semillon (can't remember the producer). Boned & tied pork leg, 4.2kg slow cooked on the BBQ. Baked potato, sweet potato, pumpkin. Honey leg ham. Turkey breast. Macaroni Salad & Caesar salad. Accompanied by the beverage of your choice. Trifle, caramel slice & christmas pudding with my Mums 100 proof brandy butter. We have 14 adults & 8 kids coming, I hope it will be enough. :-?

Well, hopefully no-one will starve this year... Have my parents, My wifes parents and my recently divorced friend coming round... plus the odd soul that will inevitably drop in now and then... Only one week left to go and I'm on leave as well

Hi guys, sorry a bit late with this one. Very busy this side.
As it is the height of summer here over Christmas we grew up spending it in the pool with either dad braaing (BBQ) or cold meats and salads to fit a king. No however, I try to be a bit more traditional with a leg of lamb, chicken, gammon, boere veggies, baked pud and custard. Our best friends live right next door so it is always a joint venture between the two families as our parents also come and it turns into a huge thing. We cook for two days straight and have a blast. This year was fab where we placed all the pressies on the lawn on a blankie and sat around it with drinks while the little one handed it to 'santa' to hand out to the recipient. Excellent. This now brings me to a question that should probably go to the ' ask a question' thread, but I don't want just the one answer.. If you had to choose between the two (as we mostly have to, to get off work) which would you prefer, Christmas or New year? and why?
