No one was killed, but most had shattered legs or pelvis from hitting the bottom-there was a child who was unharmed because he was in his mums arms & she took the strain of it.

I've wondered ever since whether they would have been any better off if they jumped at the right time!
Wow, that must have been quite scary... you were really lucky...
And actually, yes, the Mythbusters did do that one (poor Buster)... and they concluded that it would make absolutely no difference whatsoever, even if you could jump at the last second before impact....

Buster is a crash test dummy used in the more dangerous myth tests. As a testament to the danger involved, Buster has been extensively repaired and rebuilt numerous times over the course of the series — to the point that an entire episode was devoted to his being rebuilt and upgraded to "Buster 2.0."

The current Buster boasts improved joints with a more realistic range of movement, and he was given easily replaceable wooden "bones", designed to break under the same stress as human ones. In addition, his new flesh is made of "Dragon Skin," a special fire-resistant silicone.
Buster has even been fitted with specialized equipment to give him new functionality; for testing the "Hammer Bridge Drop" myth, he was fitted with an accelerometer, and in the "Shark Week" special, he received temporary modifications allowing him to punch sharks.

Ive started a new thread here for Mythbusters

With the lift myth the mythbusters decided that if you jump at time of impact it would make no difference, however they did find the story of a woman who did survive when her lift fell. there were two theories as to what may have happened.

1. The lift fell so quickly that a pocket of air could have accumlated below her causing the lift to slow down. This would only work if there was only one lift as the space between the lift and the walls would have to be minimal.

2. The cables curled in on the floor creating a "spring-like" action.

I personally like the first theory.

oh, i dont know-plumetting to what you assume is your death & as you should be hitting the bottom you bounce back up again like a spring becuase of how the cables have landed. sounds like a pretty cool theory to me!
