My wife and I have a long discussion on what we call certain everything things, and how each region the name varies. Please remember I am from Belfast.....
The 'cupboard under the stairs', I know it as 'The Glory Hole' The 'airing coupboard', I know as the 'Hot Press' Spring Onions -> 'Scallions' My favourite...... 'Ice Cream cone' -> 'poke'. This has got me into trouble. I was at some friend's house and I heard an icream van ('pokey') and shouted out, "Anyone fancy a poke ?". I was asked to leave the party early ! What items and regional names do you guys know ? Daz

It confuses the hell out of overseas visitors asking for directions... as in: "Go to the end of the road, turn left at the t-junction and then take the first right at the Robot".... Another South Africanism is the casual form of greeting, "Howzit"....

I can understand the Americans being a little confused tho As Inspector Grimm said in "The Thin Blue Line"... "It's my arse on the line so I don't want a cock-up...."

Wiganers also refer to a Steak Pudding as a "BabiesYead" as it vaguely resembles a new born babys head. (Im not making this up honest).
