Default Regional variation for item names

My wife and I have a long discussion on what we call certain everything things, and how each region the name varies. Please remember I am from Belfast.....

The 'cupboard under the stairs', I know it as 'The Glory Hole'

The 'airing coupboard', I know as the 'Hot Press'

Spring Onions -> 'Scallions'

My favourite...... 'Ice Cream cone' -> 'poke'. This has got me into trouble.

I was at some friend's house and I heard an icream van ('pokey') and shouted out, "Anyone fancy a poke ?". I was asked to leave the party early !

What items and regional names do you guys know ?

Daz

Well in South Africa, they call a traffic light a Robot for some strange reason????
It confuses the hell out of overseas visitors asking for directions...
as in: "Go to the end of the road, turn left at the t-junction and then take the first right at the Robot"....

Another South Africanism is the casual form of greeting, "Howzit"....

In parts of the UK we call a cigarette a fag, I have no idea why :-? But I have learnt from experience that whilst in America its best not to say "Im nipping outside for a fag" ops:

Wiganers also refer to a Steak Pudding as a "BabiesYead" as it vaguely resembles a new born babys head. (Im not making this up honest).

An elbow is a Thelba, a bus is pronouced as "buz" they have quite an accent :!:

This is said in Australia also.

We have different names for 'swim suits' in different states over here in Victoria we say 'bathers' in some other states they call them 'togs'.
