Wish List - Make-believe Technology

I have to admit that I am a big SCI-FI fan, but I do also claim that I'm not an anorak (geek). Anyway; the technological gadgets and science shown in the movies and TV often make me either laugh, or roll my eyes in disbelief

However every so often they show a gadget, or concept that I would just Love to have :-P For instance there are days at work when I would just love to have a cloaking device, just think I could hide from that guy that is hassling me about the performance of his server

My questions to you all are:

1) Is there a make-believe gadget that you wish you had access to :?:

2) Is there a make-believe gadget that you wish you think is just stupid or plain impossible :?:

3) Is there a make-believe gadget that you think will become a reality in the next 10 years :?:

Oooohhhh!!! good questions.... (from one anorak to another )

1) Sometimes (mostly when I driving and NOT suffering from road rage at all NOT) I wish I had the BFG from the Quake and Doom games or even better, the big laser cannon from the Death Star :twisted:

Seriously tho, I would love a teleporter (and a socttish engineer called Scotty)

2) A time travel machine... not stupid but impossible I reckon

3) Yep, a teleportation device... Scientists in Australia have already teleported light and data and say that the teleportation of matter is only a few years off...

Yes, a transporter although I have to admint that a BFG 900 would be great fun

Due to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle I dont see how a transporter can ever work :!: How can you transport something when at a molecular level you dont know where it is :?:

3) Is there a make-believe gadget that you think will become a reality in the next 10 years


3D Television - Im not sure that it will be a good thing or bad thing though

I also think that within the next 10 years the technology will be at an early stage for total immersion games (It seems like you are actually in the game).

1) Definitely the uploading device in "The Matrix". Imagine being able to learn how to fly a helicopter in seconds. Oh, YEAH!!!

2) The Neuraliser in "Men in Black". I can only imagine what the government would do with that one. :-x

3) "Intelligent" robotics which can reason & think like (or much like) a human. Kind of like "I-Robot". See Nutty's robot cook post!!!

The technology needs to come together and be more accesible.
