Red face Cricket Coaches fined over drinking session

Two members of England's backroom staff have been fined for their involvement and failure to act during a late-night drinking session with several players.
Bowling coach Kevin Shine and spin specialist Jeremy Snape were both at the Rumours nightclub in Rodney Bay with six players only hours after England's opening World Cup defeat to New Zealand on Friday and less than 48 hours before Sunday's win over Canada.

The six players were all fined on Saturday when news of their behaviour came to light, but neither Snape or Shine received any disciplinary action. That changed on Tuesday following meetings between coach Duncan Fletcher, England and Wales Cricket Board deputy chief executive Hugh Morris and the two coaches.

They were "invited to make a donation" to the Chance to Shine initiative, a foundation which aims to fund the development of grass-roots cricket in England and Wales.
Shine, a permanent member of England's backroom staff, was also warned about his future conduct although he was not out with the players and was only at the same nightclub because he went in there with his brother.
Snape was only brought into the backroom staff a fortnight ago to help the spinners and, in particular, help them with their mental preparation for matches.

Coach Fletcher was particularly angry about the failure of both coaches to act when they saw the group of players in the nightclub in the early hours of the morning.

Through the fines and "donations", around £10,000 has been raised for the Chance to Shine Foundation.

Boys will be boys!
