The Petrol rice in Jo'burg in May 2005 was R5.35/litre it is currently sitting at R8.91/litre... it is scheduled to go up by 24c/litre on the 7 may so will be R9.15/litre, it has nearly doubled in 3 years The food price seems to go up on a daily basis... I know at the exchange rate that fuel is more expensive in the UK but salaries are higher over there, so it kind of evens things out... PLUS the prime lending Rate in SA has just increased to 15.5 %... I know that it just dropped in the UK to 4% was it??? that is why it costs so much more to live here... For example A Brand new Toyota Yaris T3 in the UK is £10 155.00 In SA it's R 150 900-00 so at the exchange rate (+- 15 to 1) the cars cost +- the same... BUT paying a lower interest rate, paying less VAT, paying less income tax, earning a higher salary, etc, etc... makes owning a Yaris in the UK more affordable than owning one here... | |

Figures yesterday showed that the UK Retail Price Index (RPI), a measure that includes the cost of property, is now 4.4 per cent, up half a percentage point in a month. It was last at that level in December 1991, during a recession.
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI), the official target used by the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee when setting interest rates, was also up from 2.8 per cent to 2.97 per cent. It is now higher than at any time since December 1995. Full article here Nutty why have you been in pain lately? |

Sorry guys haven't been on for a while.
Back on subject I'm not sure what Nationality I would choose. I already choose Scottish over English (I was born in England but my ancestory is Scottish). I do get annoyed that people don't take the Scots seriously. Edinburgh is a buzzing modern centre with lots of business opertunitys but when other countries think of Scotland they think of rolling hills and glens, men in kilts and women with red hair I really hate the Scottish steryotype but I guess most people hate their countries steryotype. |
