Birmingham is known as "the Second City" (a title also occasionally claimed by Manchester).
The city is commonly known to its inhabitants as Brum (from the old name "brummagem") and we are known as Brummies. We have the largest local authority in the United Kingdom (UK). Birmingham balti restuarants produce the best Indian food outside India. Balti Beer - You think we are joking? Well we’re not. There is now a Balti Beer courtesy of Aston Manor Brewery. Aston Manor Brewery say that the Balti Beer is specifically designed to enhance the richness and flavours of the spices found in traditional Indian Food. Take a look at their website at www.astonmanor.co.uk Birmingham have more canals than Venice but that it also has both more parkland and more trees (per person) than any other city in Europe. The bands Black Sabbath, The Beat, Spencer Davis Group, Charlatans, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Dodgy, Duran Duran, ELO, Judas Priest, The Moody Blues, Magnum, Pop Will Eat Itself, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, The Move, Ocean Colour Scene, Steel Pulse, Traffic, UB40 and Wizzard all originated in Birmingham, as did the musicians Joan Armatrading and Steve Winwood. Birmingham is home to two professional football teams: Aston Villa and Birmingham City & Warwickshire County Cricket Club play at Edgbaston. Famous Residents - Sir Michael Balcon, John Baskerville, Matthew Boulton, Jane Bunford, Edward Burne-Jones , Arthur Chamberlain, Joseph Chamberlain, Arthur Conan Doyle, Sid Field, Tony Hancock, Washington Irving, Alec Issigonis, Albert William Ketèlbey, Henry Vollam Morton, William Murdoch, Bill Oddie, Ozzy Osbourne, Joseph Priestley, J. I never knew that Australia attracted so many Greeks There was a huge migration push to Australia after world war two. We have huge numbers of greeks, italians, and folks from many other european countries. Our large cities are very multi-cultural. Some of our bigger ethnic radio broadcasters have programs prepared by people from 70+ nationalities.

I live in Canberra, the capital of Australia.
Some bits and pieces taken from wiki: Population of over 323,000, it is Australia's largest inland city. The site of Canberra was selected for the location of the nation's capital in 1908 as a compromise between age-old rivals Sydney and Melbourne, Australia's two largest cities. It is unusual among Australian cities, being an entirely purpose-built, planned city. Following an international contest for the city's design, a design by the Chicago architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin was selected and construction commenced in 1913. The city's design was heavily influenced by the garden city movement and incorporates significant areas of natural vegetation that have earned Canberra the title "bush capital". As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is the site of Parliament House, the High Court of Australia and numerous government departments and agencies. It is also the location of many social and cultural institutions of national significance, such as the National Gallery of Australia and the National Museum of Australia. The federal government contributes the largest percentage of Gross State Product and is the largest single employer in Canberra. Before European settlement, the Canberra area was seasonally inhabited by the Ngunnawal Aboriginal people. Archaeological evidence from the region suggests human habitation of the area for at least 21,000 years. The word "Canberra" is derived from the name of the local Ngabri people dialect, one of the Ngunnawal family groups, from the word Kanbarra meaning "meeting place". I have the privilege of working at Parliament House. Lots of people that live in Canberra are from other places, and come here to work in the public service. Many people, (particularly those that don't live here!) think Canberra is a boring, sterile place to live. You either love it or hate it. I love it! It's a fabulous place to live.

Facts about Essex....
A few interesting facts about Essex: 10 People who hail from Essex
Longest Coast - 350 miles of coastline - the longest in Britain, fact confirmed by the Essex Police Marine Unit. The nursery rhyme "Humpty Dumpty" relates to an incident in Colchester. St Mary's Church came under siege in 1648 and a giant cannon perched on the top of the spire was shot to the ground shattering into several pieces. The Royalists (the King's men), could put it together again!. The name Essex originates from "The Land of the East Saxons". A national newspaper recently undertook an extensive survey that highlighted the Essex district of Uttlesford as the "Most desireable place to live in the UK". Tilbury was where Queen Elizabeth I was presented to the English army before being sent to fight the threat of Spanish Invasion. Danbury Common near Chelmsford is home to the largest population of Adder snakes in the UK. Essex is one of the few places in the world where the "Little Scarlet" strawberry is grown - the perfect variant for jam making. The first ever radio broadcast was made from Chelmsford. Southend pier (at over a mile long) is the longest pleasure pier in the world. Hatfield Forest - Britain's best preserved small hunting forest created by the Norman Kings. Greensted Church - The world's oldest wooden church dating from the 11th century AD. Southend Airshow - Europe's biggest free airshow. Essex is home to Great Britain's first capital city (established by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago) and Britain's oldest recorded town - Colchester. Long stretches of surviving Roman town wall and the largest Norman Castle keep in Europe (now an excellent museum) are just two of many features that make Colchester unique. Layer Marney Tower - Britain's tallest Tudor gatehouse. Manningtree - Britain's smallest town. And my home town where i live Harlow As the Titanic sank the orchestra played 'Nearer My God to Thee', written by the poet Sarah Flower Adams of Harlow Harlow Town Park is one of the largest urban parks in Britain. All pubs in Harlow are named after Butterflies and moths Famous people from Harlow Glenn Hoddle Jade Goody (big brother) Jakki Brambles (former radio 1 dj Nick Kamen (levi's model and singer) Rik Mayell Jessie Wallace Graham Cole ( Tony Stamp from the Bill) Katie Price (jordan) Linda Lusadi Michael Barrymore And loads more but not got enough time to name them all lol, Lots about Essex but not much about my home town lol
