have managed to fix up most of it.. just our bedroom that needs repainting now and a few things that need to be cleaned still... been off work the whole of last week... I can honestly say, I sick and tired of soot and paint

LOL...
I'm not the only member here from Essex, so you've got to be careful what you say about us
I glad it was just superficial damage

I'd forgotten that we have quite a few Essex members

Thanks InLove, Mike...
I had to replace the ceiling boards in my daughters bedroom myself as well... couldn't get hold of a builder willing to do it as it was "too small" a job
at least I had help, otherwise I'd still be at it (took me 2 days)

I tried it many years ago when I was an electrician. I couldnt do it on my own as I didnt have enough arms. I was in awe of the guys who did it on there own

They then put something like a thin bandage (scree?) over the joins, once that was done they skimmed it with plaster. Those guys have a lot of skill and uper body strength!

You're pretty close to the Sea Kaz... must be nice
I suppose most Australians live close to the Sea as most of the bib cities are by the coast???

I lived in Cape Town and In Durban for awhile.. back in the early 90's... which are right on the coast but must say, I prefer living in Jhb... there's less sand

We just used joining strips to join the boards up.. but yeah, I could never have done it by myself... boards are far too heavy...

I've attached a couple of pics... one of my daughters bed, the day after the fire and one of the new ceiling whilst I was still putting it up

She was on the Top bunk of L-Shaped bunk Beds.... It was rather scary...I'm just grateful she woke up when she did

I've already finished the room...
don't think the girls feel too safe in thier room anymore
BUT I've put new beds in, painted their wardrobe and rearranged the room so they don't feel too vunerable, seems to have helped a bit... we will be moving in a couple of months to a new house(4 bedrooms, so they'll have their own room), hopefully that will help
