Thats a very good question!

I get really irrated by some of the terms that adverts use as they can be misleading Such as "lower in fat" lower in fat that what, a block of lard?!

Anyway back to the question "What is HD Ready?"

According to an article at Wickepedia:
HD ready concerns the ability of television receivers to display high-definition pictures. The term has had official use in Europe since January 2005 when, EICTA (European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Associations) announced the requirements for the label.

EICTA introduced the label as a quality sign for the differentiation of display equipment, capable of processing and displaying high-definition signals. It is awarded on the basis of minimum functionality requirements that are detailed in the "EICTA conditions for HD Labelling of Display Devices".

In the USA, "HD Ready" refers to any display that is capable of accepting and displaying a high definition signal at either 720p, 1080i or 1080p using a component video or digital input, and does not have a built-in HD-capable tuner.

HD ready caveats
The fact that a product bears the label "HD ready" does not necessarily mean that it can display the full picture resolution possible from a HD source. Most HD-ready sets do not have enough pixels to give true pixel-for-pixel representation without interpolation of the higher HD resolution (1920x1080) - or even the lower HD resolution (1280x720) horizontally (CRT based sets, or the plasma based sets with 1024x768 resolution).

The term HD compatible is also being used in Europe to indicate that a display device has HDMI capability but with lower than HD-ready resolution.
Hope that helps answer your question

Our PS3 isnt connected to HD TV, but it still looks great on our 42' Panasonic Plasma

I couldnt agree more

So what is your favourite PS3 game?

Ours seems to be Motor Storm and Tekken.

Have you connected your PS3 to the internet? The playstation store has loads of demos you can try! Rub a Dub is a good laugh

Red face

I'm playing "Resistance fall of man" again as I played it then deleted but when i'd cleared it I found out there was new weapons & stuff the second time round so i'm playing again then i'll play again with the new stuff plus i'm trying to get all the skill points to open the extras

Im a dedicated load myself up with hardware & go hunting those bad guys sort of person a sniper rifle a pocket full of grenades & a M16 for close quarter & i'm happy

Where as MM is a Lara Croft fan & is waiting not so patiently for it to come out on PS2 of course so we dont argue over who's going on the PS3

So what they are basically saying is that buying a HD ready TV is a waste of time and money????
They only begin broadcasting HD TV in South Africa towards the end of this year but was planning to get a Plasma or LCD TV before that time...
The salesmen in the shops are all pushing HD Ready TV's... Thanks to SIliconhell, I now know better

BTW... Does anyone own both a PSP and a PS3??? I know from the functionality on my PSP that I can connect my PSP to a PS3, I just don't know why I would want to? What does it allow me to do? Play PS3 games on my PSP???

I know that the PSP will interact with some games although it is pretty limited at the moment.

I watched a TV program where they showed a driving game and the PSP acted as a rear view mirror.
