I imagine there has to be a bit of local variation in what cities are called, but here are my answers

1. I know the City of Churches as Adelaide, South Australia
2. Mormon City has to be Salt Lake City, Utah
3. The River City is my state capital - Brisbane, Queensland
4. The Forbidden City is Beijing, China
5. There are a few answers for the Steel City - Newcastle, New South Wales is one. Sheffield is another. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is too.
6. And The White City of the North is beautiful Helsinki, Finland.

Sadness is just another word for not enough coffee...

Here are another 6 answers for today...

1. The City of Love is both Paris, France and Rome, Italy
2. Due to the strong rodeo culture, The Stampede City is Calgary, Canada
3. Surely, The Harbour City must be Sydney (although I've never heard it called "the Emerald City" :?: )
4. The City of the Violet Crown is both Athens, Greece and Austin, Texas. Austin gets its nickname from a reference in "Tictocq", a short story by O. Henry, probably referring to the violet glow seen there at dusk due to the hills. Athens's nickname comes from antiquity, and probably stems from the fact that Greece was formerly named "Ionia" after King Ion. "Ion" means violet, and Athens was the city where "Ion (Violet) was crowned"
5. The Quaker City is Philadelphia, aka the City of Brotherly Love
6. The City of Dreaming Spires is Oxford, so named because of the towers and spires of the many university buildings

(and in answer to queries - yes I am in the process of devising a competition to put up and it's a good'un. Get your calculator out - you'll need it! ;-) )
