Q7. Why are 1994 Australian $1 coins worth more than 1989 Australian $1 coins?

The coins then were made of 80% silver and 20% copper, but as the value of a free-floating silver price became higher, the coins' bullion value became more valuable than their face value and so were withdrawn from circulation. so the value of 1994 Australian $1 coins was more than 1989 Australian $1 coins.

Value has a value only if its value is valued

Think quantity not year.

1994 and 1989 refer to the number of $1 coins not the year, so 1,994 x $1 coins is $1994 which is more than $1989

Exactly right! They are worth more, because there are 5 more of them! (It's the same as asking "why are 9 coins worth more than 4 coins" but careful choosing of the number causes confusion)

Are Lilain and Michelle Tropical Storms? PPL would be far happier if a storm died out over the ocean rather than on land
Again, completely correct.

Now that you mention it, that probably is entirely true. However, I was heading down the path that salocius found - think quantity not value! Sorry!

I can't believe how quickly these were solved. You realise now, the next set are gonna have to be near to impossible now. I'll have to raise the bar somewhat! :!:

I know what you mean... I posted 5 riddles yesterday, and they were all solved within an hour

I really thought the Calendar Cube puzzle I posted was quite hard

To err is human. To ARRR is pirate.

One thing you might consider is checking that a puzzle hasn't been posted before. A simple search within the competetions section should do the trick. Posting puzzles that have been posted before is fine, but you'll find they're easily solved. Also checkout the "Read Me First" thread, if you haven't already done so

Ok. I think everyone's done with this contest - time for it to be put in cold storage methinks!
