Logic: You Want Pop....

You have three cans, one says MILK SHAKE, one says POTATO CHIPS, and the thrid says POP... You want to open the pop but you know your little sister has mixed up all the labels so none of them are labeled correctly. You can only open one, but for a hint you can shake ONE of the cans as a clue, which can do you shake? Explain your decision!!

I figured this one out before my husband did :-P

Shake the one labled MILKSHAKE....

Because:
You Know it is not Milkshake
Therefore
If it is a liquid, you know that it is POP

If it isn't a liquid, you know that it's Chips
The two cans remaining are marked chips and pop.
The one marked pop isn't pop or chips, so has to be Milkshake
so the one marked chips must be POP

If I might add my 2 cents worth (well, 1.8 cents - I think the exchange rate went down overnight)....

You should really shake the can labelled POP. If it is a liquid then it must be the milkshake. Therefore the one marked CHIPS must be the pop, as it can not be chips, or the milkshake.

If it is not liquid, then it is the chips. Therefore, the can labelled MILKSHAKE is not chips or milkshake, and must be the pop.

While this is pretty much the same as Nutty_ZA's response, this one has one slight modification. This way, you don't run the risk of shaking the can containing the pop, and having a nice surprise when you opened the can.... (OK, it's silly I know, but I'm a stickler for small details like that! lol) ;-)

Hehe. "Smoke me a kipper..." comes from 'Ace Rimmer'. "Stoke me a clipper..." is the real Rimmer's mangled version when he's forced to take Ace's place (and is actually the title of the episode too ) Probably my favourite episode actually. Nazis, plastic crocodiles, and twice the Rimmer....classic
