A MAN who arrived home from a secret holiday got the shock of his life when he discovered his friends and family were mourning his death.
The confusion began when Middlesbrough resident Michael O'Neill, 49, made a last-minute decision to head to Australia in June - but forgot to tell any friends or family. O’Neill’s neighbours grew worried and phoned police, who broke into his apartment. However, they could not find any clues as to his whereabouts. Last week the situation grew even more dire when O’Neill’s friends saw a death notice in a local newspaper. By an incredible coincidence, another Michael O'Neill from Middlesbrough had died - and both have brothers named Kevin and Terry. O'Neill said: "I went out on June 2 to stay with a friend and when I got back last Monday I found my door had been smashed in. "My neighbours thought I had died so they got in touch with police who came and broke the door down. "Everywhere I am going, people I know are grabbing hold of my hand, saying, 'I thought you were dead!' They can't believe it's me and I'm still alive." Who "forgets" to tell family and friends they are off to Australia???? And what a coincidence that the actually deceased Michael O'Neill also had brothers of the same name! Truly weird
