Its lethal effects include burning eyes, streaming nose, uncontrollable hiccups and much, much worse.
And it is about to be sold at Tesco. The world's hottest chilli pepper, the Dorset Naga, will be available in 10g sachets containing up to three tiny fruits, at a price of 89p. ‘The Dorset Chilli is something only absolute connoisseurs of very hot food and those with asbestos-lined stomachs should even consider trying. ‘However, that said, there are an increasing number of chilli heads as they are officially known, that not only savour but endorse these tiny vegetables as being beneficial in helping sweat out the body’s toxins. ‘We trialled them in our test kitchens and even the hardest blokes in our team were brought to their knees. ‘Anyone brave enough to try the Dorset Chilli will definitely be yelling "Ooh argh".’ The tiny ingredient was recently used to make the world’s hottest curry, a Bollywood Burner in a London restaurant. In the last year, brave Brits have splashed out £9 million on chillies, ranging from the fiery Scotch Bonnet and Bird’s Eye to the milder green, red and Orange Topaz varieties. Mr Corbett added: ‘Chilli pepper culture in the UK has really come on in the last few years and they are no longer thought of as a culinary novelty. ‘In the past we used to primarily stock chilli peppers in areas where there was a large Afro-Caribbean or Asian community but nowadays we sell them in stores right across Britain.’ The Dorset Naga will be sold in 10g sachets which contain up to three chillis. I really do love chillis - my other half says he could get me to eat anything if he put chillis in it! - but I think I'll be giving these ones a miss!!

Did anyone in the UK see Mikey eat one of the hottest chillis in the world on the show the other week - really funny!! He ate it and said it was OK, then when he had finished it the effects kicked in. He went red in the face and poured milk all over himself trying to get it into his mouth quickly.. really funny

I'm having visions of a group of drunk guys stumbling into an all night Tesco at 2am saying "I can take it!"
Oh dear.

Hello. We were absolutely delighted when we spotted packs of Dorset Naga Chillies on Tesco shelves the other day.
However something is terribly wrong. They just don't have any heat! My husband and I love hot chillies and grow our own chillies in the greenhouse each year. It is always a challenge to grow really nice hot ones and we've so been looking forward to cooking with (and munching on) Dorset Nagas. We can't seem to manage to grow that variety. The packet of Dorset Naga we have just used really doesn't have any heat (nor at the moment do Tesco's Scotch Bonnet chillies). In fact to be honest the little green birdseyes have more heat than the Nagas they are selling. I just don't understand how they can sell chillies under the name of Dorset Nagas when they are clearly not very hot. What do you think is going on? Are others finding them rather lame or is it just me? Yvonne |

We found last winter when I made lots of chilli's that they all seem pretty weak. I also shop in Tesco... maybe they are being grown for the weaker people and are less hot - I hope not though, as I love hot food..
