Handcuffed suspect stole police car

A suspect who stole a police car and drove off while handcuffed has been re-arrested in Australia.
Mark Nolan, 29, was originally arrested by two police officers in connection with a burglary in Brisbane.

He drove off and escaped, later dumping the car in the north of the city, reports the Brisbane Times.

Deputy Commissioner Ian Stewart told reporters Nolan had been handcuffed and placed in the back of the unmarked police car.

"Police then began examining the contents of a bag found in his possession," Mr Stewart said.

"During that time, it appears Nolan has got into the front of the police car and turned the police car on and driven off."

Nolan was spotted and arrested the next day at a local shopping centre - despite allegedly ramming another police car in a bid to escape.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, although the car was badly damaged.

Nolan is now being questioned by police.
Deputy Commissioner Stewart added: "This matter is of concern to us, and we will be undertaking a thorough investigation of all the circumstances in Mr Nolan being able to drive away in the police car."
