A burglar in America who learned the best ways to raid homes by watching a TV show has been jailed for 12 years.

Michael Hobbs perfected his criminal trade by watching the It Takes A Thief show on the Discovery Channel, which features two ex-convicts who give home security advice.

The 36- year-old from Waco, Kentucky offered DIY services to people then returned to raid their homes.

He pleaded guilty to five counts of burglary.
