Default Caught red-fingered

A BURGLAR left his severed finger behind after an attempted raid on a builders' merchants.
The crook broke into the yard in an attempt to steal gallons of diesel from a yard.
But while climbing over a fence he severed his finger on razor wire and left it at the scene.
Police say the finger had no bone left inside as the skin was ripped off.
Max Gibson, a mechanic who found the finger, said: 'I was putting the rubbish out and saw some barrels that didn't belong to us.
'Then I looked closer and saw the finger – it was pretty disgusting.
'I could tell straight away what it was. I could see the fingernail really clearly.
'And then I saw all the blood on the fence.
'It made some of the staff here go a bit pale.'
The crook attempted to break into Elliotts Builders' Merchants in Newgate Lane, Fareham (Nr. Portsmouth, Hampshire)on Tuesday night.
The gruesome discovery was then found by staff at neighbouring business Newgate Motor Services yesterday morning. Staff at Elliotts Builders Merchants only found out about the attempted burglary when police came to recover the finger for evidence.
Manager Doug Holden said: 'The first thing we knew was when the police turned up and then we went out the back to find blood everywhere.
'Apparently there was only skin left – no bone inside.
'I have no idea why they didn't take the finger with them – you'd think they would have.
'They probably panicked or were just in too much pain.
'They were obviously in too much pain to bother to take the diesel with them.'
He added: 'The police said they've contacted local hospitals and there's been no reports of anyone with that kind of injury.
'Whoever did it must be in excruciating pain – it makes you cringe just thinking about it.'
It's the second time Elliott Builders' Merchants have been targeted by burglars this week.
Hundreds of pounds worth goods were stolen Sunday evening.
Fareham police are now investigating both incidents.
Anyone with any information should call 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
