That was a good response to her previous owner.

Ours are getting on a bit better now, starting to play together a bit. But only sometimes!

Hi all, well the replacement Feliway arrived Thursday and it has made a huge difference, I am amazed. Thursday night Simba made a fuss with my husband whilst I was upstairs getting my son ready for bed. I have to admit I am mift, really mift as he has ignored her from day one and hasn't bothered with getting to know her. How strange are cats eh? Anyway, whilst she was rubbing herself up and down his legs and generally flaunting herself with him I managed to have a stroke, she is gorgeous and soft and has lots of fur. Amazing after nearly 8 weeks I have only just got to find that out. Anyway, things are improving so I am happier, she doesn't want to know much about me, my husband is flavour of the month so I will back off and let her come round to me instead of hassling her for a stroke and cuddle. In the meantime seeing as my husband is so smug with himself he gets the chore of cleaning her pan
Thanks for the support through this, I will keep you updated.

That sounds a real success story, well done.

Glad she is coming around, even if it is with the help of the Feliway.

Nice one!

Well here I am again, now I really don't know what to do for the best. Simba has not improved towards me nor my son but is still the same (sometimes) towards my husband. Through this she is feeling a little more sure of herself and is now attacking our cats. This has gone on for 2 weeks, our cats have not retaliated until the other day. One of them has obviously defended itself and attacked her back resulting in a cut on the back of her neck. I cannot medicate her, she smells the antibiotic tablet in her food and therefore does not eat it, I cannot put her in the cat box to take her to the vet so we are with a cat with a hole in her neck that will more than likely get infected. I contacted the previous owner and explained the situation, basically if I can't get near to her after all this time even to medicate her then all this is a lost cause. It turns out they don't want her back because they have new carpets down.....but will look for a new home for her. They were to collect her today so I got my husband to place her in the cat box ready for them, then after an hour they didn't turn up at the agreed time and by this time the cat was furious as you can imagine. I contacted them only to find they were waiting for the kennels to open which was 3 hours later. I feel awful that this cat is going into a kennels until another home is found, I feel guilty that I cannot do more for her and feel I am letting her down. What do I do? I have told them to leave her here a few days more to calm down as I can't see us being able to get her in the cat box again. I would love to keep her to give her another chance but how long does one wait with this aggressive behaviour? My husband says to give her back, its their problem etc etc but I don't think that way.
Thanks, one very upset Melodie.

Try looking at it this way:

You really have tried to help, I know you have tried several things over the past few months. Somethings you just can sort out, no matter how much you want to. For reasons unknown Simba just cant settle and you now have to do what is right for your familly, that of course includes your other cats.

I know this because MadCat and I had to make a similiar heartbreaking decision a few years ago. I still get a lump in my throat when I think about it, I think I always will, but, overall we did the right thing.

Kind Regards

Mike ...

Gosh what a nightmare. What a terrible decision to make, but I think you did the right thing.

some cats prefer to be an only cat in a household with adults and no kids, maybe she is one of these?

I sympathise with you, I bet you are hurting, but you know you tried and did your best for her.

Hi Madcat, yes a very difficult decision but in the end it had to be done. I have tried and tried to get close to her but she didn't want to know. The previous owners came and collected her Monday, my husband had to come home and put her in the box so she was ready when they came. Simba knew her straight away and "talked" to her, bless. I had never seen her like that and it makes me sad the owners want to get rid of her.
Anyway, as they say, another chapter. I can't say I haven't tried can I?

Thanks to Guru, Mike and Madcat for your valued help on this, the support was much needed.

love to all
Melode xx
