My cat is due to have a litter any time now. Vet says there's either 1 or 2 kittens.
Her bahaviour hasn't changed recently. As I understand, a cat will start to look for somewhere to give birth. Can anybody give me any hints and tips as to what I should/could/must do for her when she starts giving birth? |

Hi
I don't know much about cat pregnancy, but I do know that they need a quiet area to give birth and if you have any other cats in your house, keep them separated from the kittens for a while as they may eat them. I will have a look on the web for some advice for you and post the link here MadCat |

The cat gestation is around 9 weeks (between 62 and 65 days).
You don't need to do anything special for a pregnant cat, other than keep her safe, comfortable, and out of stressful situations, until the last week or so - then she will need more food and will start looking for a place to build a "nest." I'd advise that you remove any sports bags and piles of laundry from the floor as these can be very tempting. You can try and help her by providing a cardboard box with a blanket in it, or, an out of the way spot in a quiet room, - but be aware that, especially if this is her first pregnancy, you may wake up to discover her giving birth under your bed. If the cat appears to be in any distress during the birthing process, call a vet for assistance immediately. If there are no problems, the whole thing will usually be over within an hour or so. Good Luck Mike ... |

A cats labour needs to be left alone!
those first moments are vital! you have to keep a fair distance if you are close to the kitties then she might not care for them anymore (she'll abandon them!) And even though I have cared for kittens almost from the start (Jenny(exJenny she died as an adult kittie (she was katnapped!) wah! :doubt:  & Bel) It can be hard and very tough You should give her a cardboard box (cats like dark and cozy) Not too spacy and not too bright and an old towel inside would be just purrfect! Then when the kittens have their eyes open and start to get adventrous buy em (mother & kits) a nice cat bed because the cat won't bleed and the kits won't poop in their bed anymore! and you'll have one happy cat family! what you do next then is up to you! |
