hi all,
firstly, sorry if this has been asked before ... did a brief search but didnÂ’t come up with anything .... secondly, not sure if i'm the only one out here who's wondered and asked this/these question(s) before, but would really like to know ... why is siliconhell called siliconhell? how'd you come up with the name? who came up with the idea? who actually knows the designer(s) of siliconhell? nothing profound or anything, and could just be cause i'm really tired that i'm asking such strange questions thank-you muchly |

When I fist joined the site I think that there used to be some funny photos of people destroying computers and stuff in various different ways.
That might have something to do with silicon hell :-k |

I wanted to register a domain name that people could remember, I sat down with a sheet of paper and completed 2 sides of names that I liked. Sadly most of the decent ones had gone. We are big Red Dwarf fans and in series VI in an episode called "Out of time" Kryten says "Now, unless you want to wallow in the eternal fires of SiliconHell, I suggest you bring a tray of refreshments up to the cockpit, pronto! " Siliconhell is apparently the place where all of the dead calculators go, lo and behold that became the name for the site. To reflect the meaning of Siliconhell we took bits of computers and trashed them, we of course took pictures and put them on the site. They used to be just off the main menu in a section called Siliconhell, but we thought that this confused the navigation of the site, so they can now be found off the humour menu. (See Pictures from Siliconhell http://www.siliconhell.com/siliconhell/index.htm ) Coincidentally MadCat and I have been discussing this part of the site, I'm pleased to announce that we will shortly be adding a few new pictures of tortured electronic hardware. We may also reinstate the feature back to the main menu, however this all depends on us finding a suitable name for the new section. Your own pictures and suggestions for the new section name are welcome MadCat and I own the domain and are responsible for the design and content. We do of course get great contributions from our Special Members, in particular Surkdidat, TheGuru and Benny have helped us out with loads of behind the scenes stuff =D> We also have to say a Big Thanks to people like Elanza, Chatterbox, Hyno, Nemisis, Munchkin, London_girl and of course the ever verbal Catz for their input. (My apologies for those I have missed, but there are so many of you). I'd also like to add that despite the many hours that we have committed to the site we do not make any profit from Siliconhell. The hosting fees far out weigh the pittance that we receive from the various adverts throughout the site. I'd therefore like to ask everybody to take a minute to look at the various adverts, hopefully you will see something of interest, and, go and visit one of the many vendors. I hope that answers your questions ;-) Regards Mike ... | |||||||||
