why is Siliconhell called Siliconhell?

References to Siliconhell & Siliconheaven actually started in Series IV "The Last Day" when Kryten's replacement, Hudzen, arrives. Lister actually asks about Siliconhell in the episode.

"No Silicon heaven??? Preposterous!!! Where would all the calculators go???"

Siliconhell is where all of the bad electronic devices go. The ones that fail.

I'd therefore like to ask everybody to take a minute to look at the various adverts, hopefully you will see something of interest, and, go and visit one of the many vendors.

I liked them.

As for Siliconhell, there is also a Silicon heaven. I suppose it depends on what you believe in.
