Greasy challenge takes bangers to Greece
The man who drove a truck powered by waste chocolate to Timbuktu last year is organising a journey to the Mediterranean using energy from chip fat and cooking oil.
Andy Pag, 34 from Thornton Heath, has planned the expedition which will set off from the UK to Greece this August.
The 30 driving teams involved in the slippery mission will be powered by only by chip fat and cooking oil that they will have to scavenge on route from restaurants and burger bars.
The two-week adventure will be the first "fat-finding" challenge tried across Europe, and teams will need to use their initiative and ingenuity to secure their fuel supplies as they travel, avoiding fossil fuels at all costs.
Mr Pag, who last year drove the Biotruck from the UK to Timbuktu powered by biofuel made from waste chocolate with John Grimshaw, said: "The aim is to see if using waste vegetable oil for long distances is practical and feasible, and to have a bit of a laugh on the way."
The teams will also be allowed to resort to biodiesel and in emergencies buy fresh cooking oil from supermarkets.
I missed this last year, clearly. My question is "waste chocolate"??????????? I could have helped them get rid of it without moving out of the country!!!
Waste chip oil is fine though, nice to think it won't be clogging up drains and sinks and making a nasty pong!
