A speed dating event was called off after attracting just one person - who was 73 years old.
Pensioner Jack Herdman was the only man in the village prepared to say he was looking for love.
Organiser Julie Wilson had hoped young single men would sign up as they have complained about the lack of female company in Wolsingham, Co. Durham.
Coffee shop owner Julie, 49, said: "Jack is a regular customer and I guess he was the only one brave enough.
"There are a lot of single men in Wolsingham - but if they don't make an effort they will be single for a long time.
"Most young girls don't want to meet men in a quiet pub so speed dating could be the answer.
"I want to organise another one, I'm determined to attract more lads."
