I am listening to it now.. have listened to over half of it so far. It's very similar to SOAD I think. I quite like it.. I think it will take a few listens to get into fully. As for the lyrics... if you listen to SOAD lyrics they are also full on and morbid, so this is not a massive step away from that for him!
