I would have to say my favourite Genre was Horror as well...
Stephen King would have to be my favourite author, whether he wrote horror or not... he just has the unique ability to get into the characters mind and explore the human psyche...
I used to read a lot of Dean Koontz as well when I was in my late teens, early 20's(atho must say he is not a very good writer) and used to like James Herbet altho tried to read one of his books again recently and found it very dated...
Currently reading The Twelfth Card by Jeffery Deaver, who I quite enjoy as well...

Favourite Book of all time would probably be The Stand by Stephen King
