Statistically I guess it is safer... although stataticians make figures work for themselves... anyway, the difference is, if your car breaksdown all you have to do is pull over to the side of the road... if a planes engine breaksdown, you're kind of stuffed (probably not on a large jet if only one engine goes, but if your in a single prop aircraft?????)
Also, if you are in a car crash, it is relatively quick, and contrary to hollywood movies, the car isn't likely to burst into flames...
In a plane crash, you could be falling out of the skies for 5 minutes, and then on impact the plane IS likely to catch fire...
I'm afraid, if air travel is avoidable(obviously sometimes it isn't) I will avoid it....
