Default Spatial: Sticky-Sided Dice (Easy)

Competition ends on Monday 31st July 2006 at midnight UK time.

Benny will donate 500 tokens to the first person who posts the correct solution and explanation to the following problem:

Suppose I have 8 regular dice (i.e. with spots to indicate the values on the faces) which happen to be have sticky sides so that they can be stuck together. For example:

Assume that the dice only stick together if the sides of them are perfectly aligned (i.e. no tricks by sticking them together at funny angles, etc.). What is the greatest (G) and least (L) amount of spots viewable if all 8 dice are stuck together into 1 shape and suspended by a thread (so that any spots on faces which are not stuck together are assumed to be viewable)?

Answers should be of the form:

G=
L=

To clarify: The shape for L and the shape for G are different, otherwise L would be the same as G.

Please DO NOT explain your answers in your guess posts, but be prepared to explain them when I have confirmed your answers as correct! ;-)
